The Queen Charlotte Islands, also called Haida Gwaii, have the most exhilarating of forest walks in the world. These walks are filled with breathtaking sceneries and many kinds of diverse landforms. Our deluxe vacation packages will include several of these forest walks as well as some beach walks. Some of the most interesting forest walks also provide the chance to experience several cultural and historical sites.

For instance, the walk through the "Inside Settlers' Road" offers many experiences of the remaining trails & cabins used by some of the first European pioneers. The walk to the "Tlell Pontoons" goes through wetlands eco systems as well as remnants from early pioneers. "Rennell Sound" walks provide the opportunity to experience some of the early mining and gold fields. The "Dover Trail" on Moresby Island provides experiences of prehistorical Haida settlements as well as buildings used by early caucasians. Beach walks such as "North Beach" and "East Beach" offer some of the most spectacular landscapes in the world along with remnants of sites used by the Haidas before contact. The walk to the Pesuta shipwreck offers a chance to experience both a forested as well as a beach environment. In addition one can see a considerable number of river otters along a river encoutered on this walk.

There are many other interesting walks in Haida Gwaii. Some of these include "White Creek & Heralda Lake", "Hiellen & Rose Spit", the "Four Corners" and "Cape Fife". In addition there are walks to Mayer Lake, Kumdis River, Yakoun Lake, Skonun Lake and Drizzle Lake. For the more adventurous there are forest walks that might call for a little mountain climbing. such is the walk to Sleeping Beauty Mountain and a few in the Rennell Sound area.

This "Edge of the World" countryside of British Columbia is sure to provide you with a very uplifting impression which you will never forget. You will find yourself walking through ancient ghost towns and through towns of the indigenous Haidas. You will also relive potlatches, participate in dancing performances done with full aboriginal costumes. Singing and unique Haida music, not found anywhere else, will pervade the air.

Some of the main highlights of our Queen Charlotte Islands tours and our Langara Island study-tours (field schools) involve presentations on totem pole reading by the Haida masters themselves. The way these experts obtain their artistic inspiration, their carving techniques, ways of creating a finished /marketable product and how all this relates to their ancestry will be explained. Famous Haidas will also be available to answer any questions you might have.
